The Lady Washington made a guest appearance in the hit movie, Pirates of the Caribbean : The Curse of the Black Pearl. Though this ship wasn’t simply a movie set prop, the Lady Washington has a full history beginning in the 18th century. She was named in honor of Martha Washington, the wife of George Washington, during her lifetime, she was often referred to as, ‘Lady Washington’.
The majestic Lady Washington was the first vessel to reach Japan from the United States and remained in Pacific trade til the ship finally foundered in the Philippines.
In the 20th century, a replica of the ship was built in Washington (1989) for the Washington State Centennial celebrations. This full scale replica of the original Lady Washington has not only appeared in the movie the Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, but the IMAX film, The Great American West, Macklemore’s music video, Can’t Hold Us, Captain Hook’s ship the Jolly Roger in Once Upon a Time as well as several more appearances!
The tall ship will be open for daily walk-on tours and donations are gladly accepted.
